When one thinks of Indiana, one of the Midwestern states, one envisions vast fields of soybeans and corn; however, the state is also a top producer for hogs and poultry, cantaloupe, tomatoes and watermelons (who knew?).
The state was named such because of the large number of Native American tribes that continued to inhabit the area even after the U.S. government granted it statehood.
If you want to see some of this production on a small farm scale (including alpacas), try one of these Indiana farm stays, an easy drive out of Indianapolis.
