Kaluna Farm Retreat
Talking Rock, Georgia 30175
Overview
Nestled in the creek hollers and bottomlands of the North Georgia Blue Ridge foothills, Kaluna Farm Retreat spans 160 acres of primarily forested land, with its heart centered around a mosaic of fields, orchards, and a magical mountain spring.
Love for the land is seen and felt everywhere at Kaluna. Here, the good life is rooted in service to place and Earth. As responsible stewards, the Kaluna family works hard to make choices that lead to abundant life for all our relations. Through regenerative farming practices, we’ve built soil fertility, restored ecosystems, and planted diverse perennial species that nourish both our community and the wildlife that depends on this land.
Kaluna Farm functions as a living ecosystem — an interconnected web of relationships and care. We make thoughtful decisions about what products enter and leave the farm, striving to maintain balance and integrity in every aspect of our work. We take pride in being completely chemical-free in our agricultural practices. Guests are encouraged to join in this ethos: bring refillable water containers to enjoy spring or filtered well water, leave plastics at home, and support local, seasonal food — including our own farm’s offerings when available.
Accommodations
Each of Kaluna’s five rentals carries its own story, reflecting the creativity, resourcefulness, and evolving spirit of the land.
The Bamboo Roost
A cozy heart-pine efficiency perched above the bathhouse, the Bamboo Roost was Ben’s first new build on the farm — replacing the original outhouse. Warmly paneled in pine and tucked behind a lush screen of bamboo, this snug hideaway offers simple comfort and rustic charm.
The Wooden Yurt
Completed in 2014 on a south-facing knoll overlooking the farm’s lower fields, the Wooden Yurt is oriented for natural efficiency — welcoming golden sunlight in winter and shaded by the forest canopy in summer. Its thoughtful design and woodland privacy make it an inviting retreat in all seasons.
The Authentic Log Cabin
Our most historic and storied accommodation, this pre–Civil War cabin was originally built by Cherokee hands and later reconstructed from its original timbers and the old corn crib that once stood beside it. The cabin exudes warmth and character, inviting guests to step back in time and experience simple living with timeless comfort.
The Treehouse Sanctuary
Once a children’s play space, the Treehouse has evolved into one of our most beloved rentals. Built from reclaimed materials — including floors made from a repurposed lake deck and windows salvaged from older structures — it rests beside a spring-fed creek beneath the forest canopy. From the upstairs bedroom, guests can drift off to the soothing sound of the bubbling spring below.
The 1850s Farmhouse
Standing as the heart of Kaluna’s history, the 1850s Farmhouse embodies the timeless charm of Southern homesteads. Lovingly restored and surrounded by gardens, orchards, and gathering spaces, it offers guests a grounding sense of place — a bridge between the past and the living, breathing farm of today.
